On January 25, 2023, the canton of Uri together with the project developers of Werkmatt AG provided information about the future development on the Werkmatt Uri site. The canton of Uri wants to develop the 120,000 m2 industrial site in a future-oriented manner and create new jobs and added value for the canton.
Werkmatt AG wants to get involved as an investor and development partner and, in a co-creation process, turn the vision into reality on the two 8,656 m2 building sites. The process is being strategically accompanied by the innovation, development and implementation workshop QUANT from Flims.
Government Councillor Urban Camenzind and Werkmatt AG sign building lease agreement
An important milestone was reached at the media orientation on January 25, 2023 at Werkmatt Uri. At the media event, cantonal councillor Urban Camenzind emphasized the importance of the project for the entire canton of Uri and formally confirmed this with his signature on the building lease agreement. Christoph Schoop, investor and member of the board of directors of Werkmatt AG, then presented the project vision. With Christoph Schoop, a proven and successful investor stands behind the project.
In addition to real estate projects throughout Switzerland, the Christoph Schoop Group has already been able to develop and realize various properties in the canton of Uri. At the event, it was emphasized that the project on construction sites 9 and 13 is intended to become a meeting place for the entire Werkmatt Uri and that a holistic development approach is central. The architects Galli & Rudolf from Zurich are responsible in this phase for the translation of the content programming into the concrete architectural implementation.
The multifunctional Werkmatt experience in nine building blocks
Unagitated, reduced to the essentials and surprising with fine details: This is how the presented project “Werkmatt” wants to become a place for casual encounters and genuine, not everyday working and creative experiences, away from the mainstream on construction sites 9 and 13. To this end, the integral concept envisages a combination of meeting zones, Werk-Hotel with up to 80 rooms, co-working, commercial and cultural spaces, gastronomy and shopping experiences. These elements are to be integrated seamlessly into the surrounding area and contribute to the high quality of the living, economic and recreational space of the canton of Uri.
Where possible, existing structures, such as the flat storage hall, are renovated and seamlessly integrated into the new building. The development of the basic infrastructure is thereby carried out in close partnership in a co-creation process between the canton of Uri and Werkmatt AG. Werkmatt AG is prepared to actively engage itself as a company in Werkmatt Uri as a development partner and investor. The process is strategically accompanied by the innovation, development and implementation workshop QUANT from Flims.
Development roadmap of Werkmatt AG
Following the signing of the building lease agreement, the phase of detailed conception and planning of the infrastructures will now begin. Discussions for the various infrastructures with the interested operators are expected to be deepened in the fourth quarter of 2023. In the subsequent implementation phase, the concrete usage scenarios for the individual elements will be detailed together with the canton of Uri and the operators.
The progress of the project can be followed at werkmatt-6460.ch.
